Dealing With Those Face Sun Spots
As the summer continues, most of us want to minimize our makeup regimen. But for many people with facial sunspots and other pigmentation issues, stepping out of the house without makeup to cover embarrassing blemishes is a deal breaker. It turns out there are a range of highly effective products and services for minimizing the appearance of hyperpigmentation or even eliminating those spots altogether. Take a look below at some of my “go-to” provider recommendations from Pure Medical Spa for getting rid of sunspots on your face.
Prevention
They never grow tired of telling me about the importance of a good sunscreen. They are huge fans of Skin Medica Total Defense & Repair. Maintaining a consistent routine with sunscreen that contains SPF 30 or higher will help tremendously in reducing development of sunspots. And if you already have sunspots, sunscreen will help keep them from getting larger and darker. It’s important to remember that once a day isn’t enough. Every two hours you should reapply, and even more often if you are swimming or sweating. I struggle with this since I tend to get going and forget to re apply, but it is important for best results.
High-quality skincare products
Lots of skincare products on the market claim to correct dark spots, but of those I’ve tried Skinmedica’s Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum is my favorite by far. It contains a number of powerful ingredients, including tranexamic acid, phenylethyl resorcinol, and phytic acid, that work together to support melanin balance and correct the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Lytera 2.0 works on all skin types, and because it’s retinol-free and hydroquinone-free, its gentle formula is especially ideal for skin that’s prone to irritation. When used twice daily under sunscreen, this luxurious serum evens out skin tone, lessens the appearance of dark patches, and increases skin’s radiance and clarity.
Chemical Peel treatments
Chemical peels use acid to treat a range of skin concerns including hyperpigmentation. During the peel process, the chemicals in the peel dissolve the outer layer of dead skin cells to help even out skin tone and improve texture. You can buy over the counter peels for at-home use, but professional chemical peel treatments from a reputable medical spa will get you quicker and better results—and minimize the risk of complications.
Not all chemical peels are the same. When choosing a chemical peel treatment for your sunspots, acne scars or any other skin concern, it’s crucial to use a formula that works for your skin type and condition. And remember, chemical peels require healing time. The deeper the peel, the more time you’ll want to plan in advance for any special events. Chemical peel treatments can do more than just correct your dark spots—they can also treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and other facial blemishes, resulting in a smooth, radiant complexion, and youthful-looking skin.
MicroNeedling
Microneedling is a minimally invasive and highly-effective procedure where we create controlled damage to the dermis, encouraging your skin to produce new collagen.
Pure offers two options with Microneedling, one using hyaluronic acid and the other using your own plasma. (Micro-Needling with Platelet-Rich Plasma). Microneedling improves skin texture and firmness, scars and sunspots, and can also be used to treat stretch marks. I did the one with the PRP, and I have to admit it healed up quickly and some of my serious sunspots were noticeably diminished.
Collagen P.I.N. is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of growth factors, new collagen & elastin. This process causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or lasers and other ablative treatments, which helps to protect the new skin cell growth. As a result it provides for quicker healing and a much higher success rate.
As always, we aren’t all the best candidates for each treatment
Talk to a provider you trust and get a serious assessment done. I had the Visia analysis and it really opened my eyes. After reviewing the results, I have a service and product regimen that’s easy to follow without it crushing my bank account. And my skin looks a lot better. Winning.
